Elf Bar
The brand that made disposable vaping mainstream, covering the BC5000 family that set the reference and the refillable Elfa Pro pod system that followed it.
Elf Bar is the brand that made disposable vaping mainstream. The BC5000 in particular became a global reference point, to the extent that competitors describe their own devices in relation to it, and the name is now used loosely by people who mean disposables in general.
The Canadian range we stock covers both the disposables that built the reputation and the refillable system that followed. The BC5000 and BC5000 Ultra sit at $21.99 and $22.99, the TE5000 at $21.99, and the Elfa Pro Pod Kit at $24.99 with replacement pods at $11.99 for two.

Why the BC5000 mattered
Before devices like this, disposables were small, weak and mostly disappointing. The BC5000 combined a much larger liquid reservoir with a rechargeable battery and a mesh coil, and the result performed consistently from the first draw to close to the last.
Mesh is the part that did the real work. A perforated sheet of metal presents far more surface area to the wick than a coiled wire does, so it heats more evenly, ramps up faster and tends to last longer. Almost every disposable now uses it, and this is largely where that started.
The consequence for buyers is that the category as a whole got better. What distinguishes brands now is flavour, capacity and build quality rather than whether the fundamental design works, which is why our disposable vapes guidance applies fairly evenly across the whole category.
The BC5000, BC5000 Ultra and TE5000
The BC5000 at $21.99 is the original and remains the reference. The BC5000 Ultra at $22.99 is the revised version, with refinements to the coil and airflow rather than a fundamental redesign.
The TE5000 at $21.99 is the alternative at the same capacity, differing in body shape and draw character rather than in specification. Choosing between them is largely a question of which feels better in the hand and which flavours you prefer.
All three are rechargeable over USB C, which on a device of this capacity is a necessity rather than a feature. Recharging buys you the remaining liquid. It does not extend the coil, and when the taste turns harsh the wick has failed rather than the battery.
The Elfa Pro refillable system
The Elfa Pro Pod Kit at $24.99 is the refillable side of the brand, with replacement pods at $11.99 for two. Rather than discarding a whole device, you replace a pod when the coil tires, typically after one to two weeks.
This changes the economics substantially. The device is a one off cost and the recurring cost is pods and liquid, both far cheaper per millilitre than buying a sealed device every few days. Our vaping versus smoking cost calculator puts real numbers against what you were spending before.
Priming matters here in a way it never does with a disposable. Put a few drops of liquid onto the exposed cotton, fill the pod, then wait five to ten minutes before the first puff. Firing dry cotton carbonises it permanently, and it is the usual way a new pod is ruined on day one.
The Canadian Elf Bar range compared
Five products across the two formats, with prices as listed.
| Product | Format | Price | Recurring cost | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elf Bar BC5000 | Disposable | $21.99 | Whole device | The reference device, daily use |
| Elf Bar BC5000 Ultra | Disposable | $22.99 | Whole device | Revised coil and airflow |
| Elf Bar TE5000 | Disposable | $21.99 | Whole device | Alternative shape and draw |
| Elfa Pro Pod Kit | Refillable pod device | $24.99 | Pods plus liquid | Lower running cost |
| Elfa Pro Replacement Pods 2 Pack | Pods | $11.99 | Not applicable | Fits Elfa Pro only |
The bottom two rows are where the saving lives. If you vape daily, the Elfa Pro pays for itself quickly against buying a BC5000 every few days.
Mesh coils and what they change
A mesh coil is a perforated metal sheet rather than a wound wire. Because it presents more surface area to the saturated cotton, it heats the liquid more evenly and reaches temperature faster, which is why the first draw on a mesh device is usually as good as the tenth.
It also tends to last longer under the same conditions, because the heat is spread rather than concentrated at a few points of contact. That matters in a disposable where the coil has to survive as long as the liquid.
None of that makes a mesh coil immune to the usual failure. Chain vaping still outruns the wick, sweet liquids still caramelise onto the metal, and a device run repeatedly to a flat battery still performs poorly in its final quarter. Technique matters as much as hardware.
Flavour life and the perception trap
Flavour in a disposable declines gradually as the coil ages, so the last quarter tastes duller than the first. That is normal and is the coil rather than the liquid.
Separately, vaping one flavour continuously dulls your sensitivity to it, an adaptation that has nothing to do with the device at all. People routinely mistake this for a failing unit. If a flavour seems to have gone but the device is otherwise behaving, switch to a different family for a day and it usually returns completely.
Iced profiles hold up better than sweet ones across the life of a device, because the cooling agents mask the gradual decline. Our roundup of best vape flavours in Canada is a good place to find a contrasting profile, and ice pods versus regular pods explains how the cooling works.

Getting the most from an Elf Bar device
Draw slowly and gently. Hard pulls flood the coil, waste liquid as condensation and make the device gurgle. Leave a few seconds between draws so the wick can reabsorb between them.
Charge before it is completely flat rather than running it down each time, since the coil performs poorly at low voltage and a device repeatedly run to nothing tastes worse in its final quarter.
Keep it upright and out of heat and deep cold. Deep cold temporarily reduces usable battery capacity enough that a healthy device can read as dead outdoors in a Canadian winter, which we explain in vaping in cold weather. Recycle finished devices at a battery drop off point rather than in household waste.
Common problems and what they mean
A burnt taste with liquid still visible means the wick can no longer keep up. That is the end of the useful life and charging will not reverse it, because the cotton is carbonised.
No vapour and no light means flat. Try a different cable before concluding anything, since cables fail at the connector far more often than devices do. Gurgling means flooded, usually from draws that are too hard, and standing the device upright for a few minutes clears it.
On the Elfa Pro specifically, a pod that reads as not connected is almost always condensation in the pod well insulating the contacts. Wipe both with a dry cotton bud. Our walkthrough at disposable vape troubleshooting covers the rest in order of likelihood.
How Elf Bar compares with other brands we stock
Against Lost Mary, its closest relative in design language and market position, the two compete directly and the choice usually comes down to flavour and body shape.
Against Geek Bar, which leans on screens and higher capacities, Elf Bar is the more conservative option with a stronger refillable route through the Elfa Pro.
Against the Canadian brands such as Vice, Allo and Flavour Beast, Elf Bar has the broader international reputation while those brands are formulated for Canadian taste and, in some cases, offer bottled liquid alongside. Against a dedicated refillable brand such as Uwell, the Elfa Pro is simpler and less adjustable.
Moving from the disposables to the Elfa Pro
This is the step most Elf Bar users eventually consider, usually when the monthly spend starts to register. The transition is less disruptive than people expect and the only genuine new skill is handling liquid.
Fill the pod, prime the cotton, wait ten minutes, and vape as normal. Match the liquid to the pod: pods want a thinner 50/50 base, because a high VG liquid cannot wick fast enough through a tight pod coil and will burn within days. Our vape juice range states the ratio on everything we sell.
Expect the draw to feel very slightly different from a disposable, since a refillable coil is not identical to a sealed one. Give it a few days rather than judging it on the first pod, which is when a new coil is still settling. Keeping a spare pod primed and ready removes the temptation to persist with one that has already gone past its best, and our vape pods range covers the wider options if you later want to move beyond this system.
Canadian availability and the rules that apply
Every Elf Bar product we list sits at or under the federal 20 mg/mL nicotine cap set out in Tobacco and Vaping Products Act. That is why Canadian versions are not directly comparable to the same model sold in markets with a higher ceiling, which is worth knowing if you are reading international reviews.
One point specific to this brand is worth knowing. Because Elf Bar sells globally, a great deal of the review material you will find online describes versions sold in markets with a higher nicotine ceiling or different flavour rules. Canadian units are formulated to the federal cap, and flavour availability is decided provincially, which we track in vaping laws by province.
We operate an age gate on every visit and ship only inside Canada in Canadian dollars. Carriers, timings and tracking are on our shipping and delivery page and faults on our returns policy page. Anything containing a lithium cell travels in cabin baggage rather than checked luggage when flying, as Transport Canada lithium battery rules requires, and our guide to taking a vape on a plane covers the rest.
Common questions
What is the difference between the BC5000 and the BC5000 Ultra?
The Ultra at $22.99 is the revised version, with refinements to the coil and airflow rather than a fundamental redesign. The original BC5000 at $21.99 remains the reference device that most competitors describe their own products against.
Is the Elfa Pro refillable?
Yes. It is the refillable side of the brand, with replacement pods at $11.99 for two. You fill the pod from any suitable bottle and replace the pod when the coil tires, typically after one to two weeks, rather than discarding a whole device.
What is a mesh coil and why does it matter?
A perforated metal sheet rather than a wound wire. It presents more surface area to the wick, so it heats more evenly, reaches temperature faster and usually lasts longer. It is largely why modern disposables perform consistently from the first draw.
Can I refill an Elf Bar disposable?
No. The disposables are sealed and the coil is fixed inside with the liquid. Recharging lets you finish the liquid already in the device. If you want to refill, the Elfa Pro Pod Kit is the format in this range that does that.
Why does my device taste burnt with liquid left?
The wick can no longer keep up with the coil, so it is heating dry cotton. That is the end of the useful life rather than a charging problem, and it cannot be reversed. Gentler draws with a few seconds between them delay it noticeably.
Are Canadian Elf Bar devices the same as elsewhere?
Not in nicotine strength. Canadian retail vaping products are capped at 20 mg/mL, so a great deal of the international review material describes versions formulated to a higher ceiling. Flavour availability is also decided provincially rather than federally.
