Smok

The veteran of the catalogue, with proper regulated mods and sub ohm tanks alongside the Nord pod line. The most mod focused range we carry, and the one that asks most of the user.

SMOK is the veteran of this catalogue. It has been making vaping hardware since long before disposables existed, and the range still reflects that history: proper mods, sub ohm tanks, and pod systems that sit alongside rather than replacing them.

We stock six: the Scar 18 Mod Kit at $64.99, the Morph 3 Mod Kit at $59.99, the Nord 5 Pod Kit at $34.99, the TFV18 Mini Sub Ohm Tank at $29.99, RPM Replacement Coils at $16.99 for five and Novo Replacement Pods at $12.99 for three. It is the most mod focused range we carry.

What a long product history means in practice

SMOK has been through many product generations, and the practical consequence is a large number of coil families with similar sounding names. RPM, Nord, Novo, TFV and others have each spanned several devices, and not all of them are cross compatible.

That is the single thing to be careful about with this brand. Check the exact model name on your device before ordering consumables, because a coil that physically fits is not necessarily the right coil, and opened packs cannot be returned.

The upside of the same history is that the hardware is mature. The mods have been iterated many times, the safety implementations are well understood, and the tanks are proven designs rather than first attempts, and spare parts remain available for far longer than they do for short lived brands.

The Scar 18 and Morph 3

The Scar 18 at $64.99 and the Morph 3 at $59.99 are regulated mods. Both have a chipset between the battery and the coil that reads resistance, delivers the wattage you set regardless of battery charge, and refuses to fire when something is wrong.

Short circuit protection, over temperature cut off and a ten second firing limit are all standard. That is the difference between a regulated mod and an unregulated one, and it is why we stock only regulated devices.

Both take removable cells, which means you can carry a spare and replace a tired one years later rather than replacing the whole device. Cells must come from a reputable manufacturer, must be kept as married pairs, and must never be carried loose in a pocket. Our batteries and chargers range covers handling properly.

The TFV18 Mini sub ohm tank

The TFV18 Mini at $29.99 is a sub ohm tank built for direct lung vaping at higher power. Wide airflow, low resistance coils, considerably more vapour, and it belongs on a mod rather than on a pod device.

It demands much lower nicotine than a pod system, typically 3 mg to 6 mg freebase, because you are inhaling far more aerosol per puff. Putting a 20 mg salt nicotine liquid into a sub ohm tank delivers several times the intended dose and is genuinely unpleasant.

It also wants thicker high VG liquid rather than the thin 50/50 a pod uses. Our vape juice range states the ratio on everything we sell, and our vape tanks guide covers how airflow and resistance interact.

The Nord 5 pod kit

The Nord 5 at $34.99 is the pod device in the range, and it sits between a simple pod system and a small mod. It takes RPM coils, offers wattage adjustment, and handles a wider range of coil resistances than most pod kits.

That flexibility means one device can cover a tight mouth to lung draw at higher nicotine and a much looser restricted lung draw at lower nicotine, by changing the coil rather than the device. It also means you have to pay attention to which coil you fit.

For someone leaving cigarettes, fit a higher resistance coil and use a higher salt nicotine strength in a thin base. Our nicotine strength calculator matches strength to hardware, and our best vape for beginners in Canada guide explains why that combination suits the transition.

Note that the coils and pods in the last two rows belong to different device families. RPM coils and Novo pods are not interchangeable, and this is the most common ordering mistake with SMOK.

Setting wattage properly

Every coil carries a printed wattage range, and staying inside it is most of what wattage control is for. Below the range the coil under performs and tastes muted. Above it the cotton cannot wick fast enough and scorches, usually within a few draws.

Start at the bottom of the printed range and step up a watt at a time until the flavour peaks, then stop. Higher is not better, it is simply more, and more suits some coils and destroys others.

A 200 watt maximum on a mod is close to irrelevant in normal use. Most vaping happens well under 60 watts, and the reasons to buy a mod are battery endurance, precise adjustment and a clear resistance readout rather than the maximum figure. Our vape mods guide explains this in more depth.

Sub ohm tanks belong on regulated mods and demand much lower nicotine than a pod system.

Priming, and the day one mistake

Whether it is an RPM coil in a Nord 5 or a TFV18 coil in the tank, the cotton must be saturated before the coil is ever fired. Put a few drops of liquid into each visible juice port and onto any exposed wick, assemble, fill, and wait a full ten minutes.

Take a few draws with no power, then start at the lowest wattage in the printed range and work up over the first tank. A new coil often tastes slightly off for the first few millilitres before it settles, which is normal rather than a fault.

Firing dry cotton carbonises it permanently and no amount of liquid afterwards lifts that taste. This is how most new coils are ruined, and ten minutes of patience prevents it entirely.

Sub ohm coils need longer than pod coils, because there is far more cotton to wet and the coil runs much hotter once it fires. On a TFV18 coil, fifteen minutes is not excessive, and taking the first few draws several watts below the printed minimum before working up gives the wick a gentler start. That small amount of care regularly doubles how long a coil lasts, which at five coils per pack is worth the wait.

Common SMOK problems and fixes

A no atomiser message on a mod is nearly always a connection rather than a fault. Liquid residue on the 510 pin insulates the contact, a coil is not screwed down fully, or overtightening has pushed the tank pin flush. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and reseat.

An atomiser short message means the chip has detected a resistance close to zero and refused to fire, which is the protection working correctly. Reseat the coil and try a different one before assuming the mod is broken.

On the Nord 5, a pod that reads as not connected is usually condensation in the pod well insulating the contacts, and a dry cotton bud fixes it. A coil burning within days points to liquid too thick for the resistance. Our walkthrough at why a vape stops hitting covers the diagnostic order.

How SMOK compares with other brands we stock

Against Vaporesso, the closest comparison on the mod side, both make capable regulated devices and sub ohm tanks. Vaporesso generally runs a tidier coil platform across its own range, while SMOK has the longer history and the wider model list.

Against Voopoo, Uwell and OXVA on the pod side, the Nord 5 is more adjustable than most pod kits but also more device than someone simply wanting a pocket pod needs.

Against closed systems and disposables, the trade is the familiar one: SMOK asks you to understand coils, wattage and battery safety, and gives you far more control and a much lower running cost in return. It is not a first device for most people, and our vape kits range has gentler starting points.

Canadian availability and the rules that apply

Every SMOK product we list sits at or under the federal 20 mg/mL nicotine cap set out in Tobacco and Vaping Products Act. That is why Canadian versions are not directly comparable to the same model sold in markets with a higher ceiling, which is worth knowing if you are reading international reviews.

Because everything here is refillable, the nicotine cap applies to the liquid you buy rather than to the hardware. Everything in our vape juice range sits at or under the federal ceiling, and provincial flavour rules are tracked in vaping laws by province. The Scar 18 and Morph 3 take removable cells, which must be carried in a plastic case and never loose in a pocket or bag.

We operate an age gate on every visit and ship only inside Canada in Canadian dollars. Carriers, timings and tracking are on our shipping and delivery page and faults on our returns policy page. Anything containing a lithium cell travels in cabin baggage rather than checked luggage when flying, as Transport Canada lithium battery rules requires, and our guide to taking a vape on a plane covers the rest.

Common questions

Are SMOK coils interchangeable between devices?

Not reliably. The brand has many coil families with similar sounding names, RPM, Nord, Novo and TFV among them, and they span several devices without all being cross compatible. Check the exact model name on your device before ordering, since opened packs cannot be returned.

Do you sell unregulated or mechanical mods?

No, deliberately. A regulated mod has a chipset that reads coil resistance, delivers the wattage you set and enforces short circuit and over temperature cut offs. An unregulated device has none of that, and a wiring error or damaged battery wrap has nowhere safe to go.

What wattage should I use?

Inside the range printed on the coil, starting at the lowest number and stepping up a watt at a time until the flavour peaks. Higher is not better. A 200 watt maximum is close to irrelevant, since most vaping happens well under 60 watts.

Can I use the same liquid in a Nord 5 and a TFV18 Mini?

Only if the coil resistances match, which they generally do not. The TFV18 Mini is a sub ohm tank needing low strength freebase in thick high VG liquid. A Nord 5 with a higher resistance coil wants thin 50/50 liquid at higher salt strengths.

Why does my mod say atomiser short?

The chipset has detected a resistance close to zero and refused to fire, which is the protection doing its job rather than a fault. Reseat the coil, check nothing is touching that should not be, and try a different coil before assuming the mod is broken.

Is a SMOK mod a good first device?

Usually not. Mods ask you to understand coil resistance, wattage ranges and lithium battery handling. For someone leaving cigarettes, a compact mouth to lung pod device at a higher nicotine strength is a far better starting point.
